HOLY PLACES IN INDIA...

Legends
Each place in the route tells its own independent story and significance.
  • Gangotri:King Bhagirath, the grandson of King Sagar, did an arduous penance to save his ancestors from getting perish as per the curse of Sage Kapil. Lord Shiva, the perpetuator of truth, was pleased with this and asked Goddess Ganga (The Daughter of Heaven) to descend on the Earth to freed them from the curse. To minimize her force that could damage the planet, Lord Shiva controlled her in his locks. The Gangotri marks this event and a sacred stone besides it is the place where Ganga touched the ground for the first time.
  • Yamunotri:This was the residing place of the worshipped sage, Asit Muni and that a dip in the river would spare one from a sorrowful death. Yamuna is the daughter of the Sun God and the sister of the God of Death – Yama.
  • Kedarnath:
Nara and Narayana, the two manifestations of Vishnu, underwent tough penance in front of a Shivalingam (phallic form of Lord Shiva) that emerged from the Earth in Badrikashraya (Badrinath). On being pleased, Lord Shiva asked them for a blessing. Both of them asked to make Kedarnath an ever lasting home of Shiva in form of a Jyotirlingam to freed the worshipping people from their worries and tensions.
  • Badrinath:This is the abode of Lord Vishnu, the perpetuator of life, who undergone tough penance here as Nar and Narayana for welfare of the mankind. After Ganga descending down on the Earth, she got divided into 12 tributaries, of which, Alaknanda, became his abode.
Pilgrimage Temples
Maximum pilgrims start from the holy temple town of Haridwar; while the rest start from its twin city, Rishikesh. Some might even approach from Dehradun, the capital of Uttaranchal.
  • Gangotri:The shrine of the goddess Ganga was made in the 18th century out of white granite. However, the temple’s visit is only possible from May to Diwali, as the idol is otherwise taken to the close by Mukhba village, near Harsil due to heavy snow resulting in the closing of the temple. Do not miss the Aarti ceremony at the banks in the evening that includes worshipping the river with huge lit diyas giving you a feeling of holiness and sereneness even in the middle of the ever flowing mass. Next, is a stunning natural rock Shivling immersed in the river that can be seen in winters only when the water levels are low. Signifying the celestial power, the legend says that Lord Shiva locked the Ganga in his curls at this place.

  • Yamunotri:The shrine here is dedicated to the river Yamuna as a silver idol decorated with garlands. Just before the entrance to the temple, the Divya Shilla, a rock pillar is worshipped. The thermal spring named Surya Kund is where people take a holy dip and prepare rice and potatoes by dipping the packed muslin bag to offer it to the deity. Another water spring is the Gauri Kund offering warm waters for bathing

  • Kedarnath:Built by the Pandavas of Mahabharata, the temple is an architectural stone marvel. Herein, you will see the hall holding the scenes of Hindu mythology and the statues of five Pandavas, Lord Krishna – an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Nandi (Bull – the divine vehicle of Lord Shiva), and Virbhadra – the guard of Lord Shiva. The inner sanctum (Garbha Griha) is where you can worship the Shivalingam. There is also the sculpted head of a man in the pyramidal facade adjacent temple marking the site of the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s marriage. Behind the temple’s rear, a Samadhi mandir (final resting place) of Shree Adi Shankaracharya at his age of 32 years is worth visiting.

  • Badrinath:Shankara discovered the idol of Badrinarayan in the Alaknanda River made from a black Saligram stone whose shrine was made in a cave close to the Tapt Kund, hot springs. Today, what you see is the remodeled temple since the 17th century. 50 feet tall with a small cupola on the top, the shrine is adorned with a gilded roof and the frontage of arched stoned windows. Carved on the patterns of Buddhist temples, a few staircases takes you to an arched main entrance after which you come across the mandapa, a giant pillared hall of detailed carvings and the garbha gruha, the main worshipping area. The temple is only possible from June to September. Do also visit the Mata Murti Temple dedicated to the mother of Badrinathji.

INDIAN CULTURE.........

well, hello friends i am back taking some time from my busy schedule for all of u... well today i am going to share abiut the different cultures of the indian cultures..... well lets go to the amazing ride of the cultures of INDIA---
‘Culture’ is rather an overused word nowadays, many people use it in many contexts, and the use of the term in so many situations and perspectives have confused the perception of the people regarding what word really means. In fact, there was a study in 1952 by two experts who compiled a list of 146 definitions of the word culture. The word ‘culture’ in simple terms represents a pattern. A common pattern of thought, action, attitudes, goals, interests coupled with the things that affect and influence this pattern can be defined as culture. These things can be social as well as political in nature
Indian culture and tradition is extremely unique, and is among the richest and most diverse cultures in the world. This can be observed in some of the most important components of culture, the manners, the way of life, the mode of communication. All of these are vital mechanisms . Also, even with the acceptance of modern way of living as a means of improved standard of living, the core of a human being, the values, traditions and beliefs do not change, unless we want it to be. The factors like clothing, food, livelihood, all this and more can be changed, but the inner values remain deeply rooted within a person’s conscience.
Indian culture and tradition has a multitude of things that are instantly identifiable and has been followed by the people since thousands of years. To cite an example, Indian culture has always treated guests as one would treat a god himself. “Atithi Devo bhava” ( A guest has to be treated as god himself ) has been a lesson that has bee taught to many of us right from childhood. Even if there is not a thing to eat in the house, the members of the family are prepared to go hungry in order that the guest may not. The Indian culture and tradition has inspired millions around the world
Love and respect for elders is another common aspect. Respect should be accorded to people older than yourself is a lesson that has been ingrained in the minds of people from the time they are born. Age is respected, and this is an inherent part of Indian mindset, the experience of age must have been accompanied with knowledge, and this is respected. Many Indians show respect to elders by touching their feet, and asking for blessings. These life lessons are passed on from generation to generation.

Indian culture was wrought not wholly by religion, geography, demographic diversity, history, heritage or any one factor. It is an entity that has been influenced by a whole lot of subtle factors that are less visible that the geography or diverse population. The heritages, the roots of Indian origin can also play a part in understanding Indian culture. The Indus Valley civilization formed the starting point, the Vedic period was instrumental in further evolution occurring here, the period described as Golden age, invasions, central Asian to British as well as the Indian struggle for Independence.
Language, music, religion, custom, architecture, dance, myriad other subjects are used as evidence of the diverse nature of India, and true all these are different as you go from one part of the country to the next. Only if you are really observant or better informed will you see the commonality that is shared, the sub cultures have been subject to amalgamation that is the result of millennia shared in living as a mighty nation.
Numerous historians describe  as “the oldest living civilization on earth”, and rightly so, 8000 BC was the oldest period that can be traced to India, and the records that exist of history of over two thousand years has been helpful to experts, as well as the results of digs in Harappa and Mohenjo Daro sites. India has had an impact on the world in a multitude of ways, religion is chief, as is Yoga, as well as Indian food, music and dance.
Indian religions, also referred to as Dharmic religions, play a big part in the lives of the population. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism originated in India. As the birth place of these religions which have influenced world religions in a big way. Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, and is followed by more than 2 billion people all over the world. Buddhism is next to Hinduism in numbers of followers, about 2 billion more or less.

INDIA'S 3 FASTEST GROWING CITIES.....

A lot has been said about India's robust economic growth with economists predicting a bright future for the country. But few know of the booming Indian cities that are adding to the nation's growth. So which are the country's fastest growing cities?
1. SURAT
Growth rate: 11.5%
Surat is Gujarat's second largest city with a population of 4 million. It is the fastest growing Indian city in terms of economic prosperity. The city has registered an annualised GDP growth rate of 11.5 per cent over the past seven fiscal years, according to the data compiled by economic research firm Indicus Analytics.
Known for its thriving diamond and textile industry, Surat is situated on the banks of the Tapti river. More than 90 per cent of world's diamonds are cut and polished here.
These two industries have largely contributed to the city's growth as the economic powerhouse of India. Though often affected by floods and earthquakes, the city has always come out on top.
Improved infrastructure has been key to Surat's rapid rise. A number of elevated roads and flyovers have facilitated the thriving diamond and textile business of the city. The city's Varachcha flyover is claimed to be India's longest.
Surat with its low unemployment rates, high job rates and one of the highest per capita small business credit is the top destination for jobs and business. It is said that if you want to make money, Surat is the place to be in.
2. BANGALORE
Growth rate: 10.3%
What was knows as the Pensioners' Paradise 10 years back, has grown 10-fold today and a study reveals that the rupee millionaire club in Karnataka's capital is the most crowded in India. Bangalore also boasts of having the largest number of households with an annual income of Rs 10 lakhs (Rs 1 million) or more.
With an estimated population of 6.5 million, Bangalore is one of India's most populous cities.
How has this city which was more famous for its gardens and laidback lifestyle changed so much in character? The two reasons that come to every Bangalorean's mind are: the advent of the IT industry, and subsequently the boom in real estate prices.
Unlike other cities in India, Bangalore's main activity is information technology and information technology-enabled services. Being the leading contributor to India's IT industry, the city is often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India. Software majors Infosys and Wipro being headquartered in the city, Bangalore contributed 33 per cent of India's Rs 144,214 crore ($ 32 billion) IT exports in 2006-07.
Businesses involving large corporates that are either multinational companies or Indian firms dealing with or catering to MNCs employ a very large workforce in Bangalore.
And although the city's infrastructure has been unable to keep pace with the rapid growth of the city, Bangalore still remains one of India's boom towns.

3. AHMEDABAD
Growth rate: 10.1%
The Ahmedabad region, including Gandhinagar, of Gujarat is the largest inland industrial centre in western India and has been an important base of commerce, trade and industry. With a population of 56 lakh (5.6 million) Ahmedabad has seen great prosperity because of its proximity to Surat and its access to the hinterland of Gujarat.
Though dusty roads and bungalows used to dot the city once, Ahmedabad is now witnessing a major construction boom and an increase in population. In recent years, the city has seen a significant rise in information technology and scientific industries.
Apart from these, chemicals and pharmaceutical industries contribute to the state's economic growth, with two of the biggest pharmaceutical companies of India -- Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals being based here.
Ahmedabad also forms the corporate headquarter of the Nirma group of industries and Adani group. Of late, many foreign companies have set up their units here. Among them, Bosch Rexroth of Germany, Stork and Rollepaal of Netherlands deserve special mention.
